One of the ways an individual can be prepared is by taking out a life insurance policy. Life insurance or end-of-life insurance will cover the expenses that come with dying, like funerals, cremations, or grave plots. This makes it unlike other insurances, such as <b>employment-based health insurance<\/b>, <i>a system in which an employer pays all or part of the health insurance premiums for the employee<\/i> or government insurance aids because the individual is putting toward money themselves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aquamation, also called alkaline hydrolysis, is the process of cremating a body with water and alkalinity instead of flames. Initially, aquamation was for pets that had passed, but the technology has expanded to be adapted for humans. While not a new process \u2014 Minnesota was the first to legalize aquamation in 2006 \u2014 it has been steadily growing traction in political and social spheres. So far, <a href=\"https:\/\/eirenecremations.com\/blog\/usa-aquamation-legal-status\">18 states have legalized alkaline hydrolysis<\/a>, while many others have bills proposed or laws pending. For citizens of New Jersey, their remains are transported to Maine in the form of <\/span><b>medical tourism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the practice of traveling to another country or state to seek healthcare<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to have their remains cremated through the process of aquamation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2016\/11\/14\/03\/05\/surgery-1822458_1280.jpg\" alt=\"Surgeons in an operating room.\" width=\"306\" height=\"204\" \/>There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0277953619307282\">serious increase<\/a> in <\/span><b>deprofessionalism<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a decline in the power of a profession<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, among health care providers, medical examiners, and funeral directors. Through misinformation, mistrust, and the readily available internet making individuals aware of their symptoms and what they could have contracted, the deprofessionalism of doctors has grown. Shows like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buried by the Bernards<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Netflix or <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/200-decomposing-bodies-removed-funeral-home\/story?id=104064568#:~:text=The%20Return%20to%20Nature%20Funeral,Office%20from%20earlier%20this%20month.\">news stories about funeral homes mistreating bodies<\/a> make people weary of end-of-life plans. While there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegefactual.com\/majors\/personal-and-culinary-services\/funeral-mortuary-science\/#:~:text=A%20Spike%20in%20Funeral%20%26%20Mortuary%20Science%20Degrees&amp;text=In%202020%2D2021%2C%20funeral%20and,%2C%20a%20growth%20of%2012.6%25.\">12.6 percent growth<\/a> in funeral and mortuary science degrees, people still don\u2019t know the difference between an embalmer, a medical examiner, and a mortician. These instances make the professions of health care and funerary services lack prestige and power when they are important careers a majority of society will interact with. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.pixabay.com\/photo\/2018\/02\/18\/03\/40\/store-3161476_1280.jpg\" alt=\"A wall of urns.\" width=\"318\" height=\"212\" \/>Aquamation has <\/span><b>sustainability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the idea that current and future generations should have equal to greater access to social, economic, and environmental resources<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in mind. The process is extremely environmentally friendly compared to flame cremation and embalming. In typical flame cremations, an individual\u2019s body waits three days before being burned for about two to two-and-a-half hours. There are many <a href=\"https:\/\/alltexascremation.com\/faq.php#:~:text=The%20typical%20cremation%20process%20requires,(excluding%20weekends%20and%20holidays).\">environmental issues<\/a> that politicians and funeral directors alike are trying to combat. The flame cremation process\u2019 energy consumption consists of fossil fuels. It produces air pollutants like carbon monoxide and greenhouse gasses, the majority being carbon dioxide, which is a large contributor to climate change, and mercury if an individual has teeth fillings or metal limbs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>subjective concern<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">people\u2019s feelings about a problem<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, of climate change and environmental impacts seem negative lately. To combat these problems, individuals are growing more conscious of their impact on the environment. These impacts extend beyond life and into death. Aquamation produces only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cremationsocietyofmilwaukee.com\/what-is-the-environmental-impact-of-direct-cremation#:~:text=The%20cremation%20process%20results%20in,a%20contributor%20to%20climate%20change.\">one-tenth of the carbon footprint and uses about 80 percent less energy<\/a>, even though it lasts two hours longer. The process is mercury-free, and there are fewer waste products and emissions. About <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfarewelling.com\/article\/aquamation-an-eco-friendly-alternative-to-cremation\">half of Americans choose aquamation<\/a> as a green alternative to burials.
